Nottingham sound systems
Nottingham has one of the oldest sound system dynasties in Britain. V. Rocket International was founded in their Nottingham living room in 1964 by Dougie and Imogen Robinson from Spanish Town, Jamaica; in 1987 it became the first UK sound to ship its whole set to Jamaica, and it still holds anniversary dances today. Quantro Tone started as Iron City in 1973 and still plays its original home-built pre-amp; it was the first sound to play the city's Market Square and the Forest carnival.
The city also gave the free-party movement DiY Sound System (1989), and in the late 1990s Highness Sound System ran monthly roots and dub sessions at Blueprint.
